Disabled & pushchair access
The Attraction is situated in the centre of the hilly town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Working within the confines of our converted Old Laundry building we have made our facilities as accessible as possible.
The building has two entrances:
- Main entrance- from Crag Brow via a steep sloping ramp with hand rail
- Alternative entrance – from Rayrigg Road via steps (not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs).
Families with pushchairs coming from Rayrigg Road car park can avoid the steps by taking the second entrance to the building – a passageway to the left straight after the steps up to the Attraction. Please note this route is steep.
Once inside the Attraction, all areas of the building are fully accessible for visitors. A lift gives access to the toilets and the Tea Room.
** Due to a temporary Theatre production extension in our courtyard between 6 Oct and 30 Nov we are unable to offer disabled pay parking and recommend visitors use the Blue Badge spaces in nearby Rayrigg Road Car Park**
We have a limited number of parking spaces in the courtyard of the Attraction which can be reserved for our visitors with mobility issues for a maximum of two hours. By driving in to our courtyard from Crag Brow, visitors avoid navigating the steep slope leading to the building. Please call 015394 88444 to book a parking space in the courtyard for your visit.
Touch tour of the Attraction
The exhibition displays three-dimensional recreations of all 23 of Beatrix Potter’s Tales with different aromas to make the experience as evocative as possible. If booked in advance (with at least 2 weeks notice), a member of staff can be made available for a touch tour of the exhibition, making the Attraction a tactile experience for our blind and partially sighted visitors. Please call 015394 88444 to request a tour.
Sound induction loop
Sound induction loops are in operation in the reception area and shop.
